Join ORiS and help build the future of energy in space.
At ORiS, we are building the technologies that will power the next generation of space missions. Through laser-based wireless power transmission, we aim to overcome the energy limitations of today’s satellites and enable longer, more capable, and more resilient operations in orbit.
As a Senior Embedded/Firmware Engineer, you will own the architecture, implementation, and validation of low-level and real-time software connecting ORiS sensors, actuators, control algorithms, and computing platforms.
You will lead the development of reliable, deterministic, and maintainable software on microcontrollers, embedded processors, SoCs, and real-time platforms used in ORiS laser transmission systems such as LOONA.
What You Will Do
- Define firmware architecture, interfaces, execution models, coding practices, and verification strategy.
- Lead development of drivers, hardware-abstraction layers, acquisition pipelines, actuator control, communications, diagnostics, and calibration.
- Ensure deterministic timing, scheduling, interrupt, DMA, synchronization, data-integrity, and resource-management behaviour.
- Lead integration of control and perception algorithms into production embedded targets.
- Define watchdog, health-monitoring, fault-detection, safe-state, recovery, bootloader, update, and configuration strategies.
- Drive automated testing, HIL, regression, debugging, performance optimization, and release readiness.
- Resolve complex hardware/software issues with laboratory instrumentation and cross-functional teams.
- Mentor engineers and collaborate with Electronics, Control, Robotics, Optical, and Systems Engineering.
What We Are Looking For
- BSc or MSc in Computer,
Electrical, Electronics, Robotics, or Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field.
- 6+ years of relevant experience developing embedded or real-time software, including ownership of deployed systems.
- Expert C and strong C++ skills, with deep knowledge of RTOS, concurrency, drivers, hardware abstraction, and real-time constraints.
- Experience with MCU/SoC architectures, communication interfaces, testing, debugging, code review, and release processes.
- Strong understanding of timing, sampling, latency, numerical stability, reliability, and fault handling.
- Ability to make architecture decisions, lead technical work, mentor others, and communicate clearly in English.
Nice to Have
- Embedded Linux, FreeRTOS, Zephyr, VxWorks, ARM Cortex, DSPs, FPGA systems, motor control, SpaceWire, CCSDS, or RS-422.
- Secure boot and updates, FDIR, safety-critical systems, HIL, flight software, ECSS, space qualification, or aerospace development.
Why ORiS
- Work on innovative satellite missions and advanced space technologies
- Play a key role in shaping system-level decisions that directly impact mission success
- Collaborate with highly skilled engineers across multiple technical disciplines
- Gain exposure to cutting-edge space programs and emerging technologies
- Grow professionally within a fast-growing and ambitious space company
- Be part of a culture driven by innovation, ownership, and technical excellence
Our Offer
- Salary Range: €50,000 - €70,000
- EUR 1,000 per year in fringe benefits
- EUR 8 meal vouchers per working day
- Flexible lavoro da remoto arrangements, subject to project needs
- Stock option plan
