Roles & Responsibilities:

Engineer will focus on supporting the different education systems, based on the requirements from Learning Mall internal and external users.

1. Configure and administer Moodle LMS at application level, to support student and faculty users.

2. Develop and maintain Moodle plugins, integrations and user-facing enhancements.

3. Work with academic colleagues and Learning Mall teams to understand needs, identify opportunities and turn requirements into practical solutions. Take ownership from investigation and prototyping through testing, release and follow-up.

4. Proactively improve usability, accessibility, application performance and reliability. Use user feedback, usage data and technical investigation to identify recurring problems and evaluate whether changes deliver measurable improvements.

5. Connect Moodle with relevant university systems and educational tools through APIs and supported integration mechanisms, including media and virtual classroom services where required.

6. Explore and prototype AI-enabled learning and support features.

7. Assess plugin compatibility and application changes; plan and test Moodle upgrades and releases.

8. Provide specialist support for complex Moodle issues, identify root causes and reduce repeat requests through fixes, clear guidance and targeted training. Contribute to relevant inductions, workshops and partner support.

9. Maintain technical documentation and share knowledge with colleagues. Track relevant Moodle and educational technology developments and propose useful improvements; undertake other duties commensurate with the level and grade of the post.

Qualifications:

- Education background in Computer Science,



Information Management and Information System, or relevant field; A relevant master’s degree is an advantage.

- Oversea education background or working experiences would be a plus.

- Professional experiences gained from industry and commercial projects would be a plus.

Required Competencies and Skills:

- Sound programming and debugging skills, including PHP, JavaScript, HTML/CSS and SQL; understanding of relational databases, web applications and secure coding practices.

- Working knowledge of Moodle configuration, permissions, plugin architecture and APIs, with the ability to investigate unfamiliar code and implement maintainable solutions.

- Experience using Git, APIs and structured testing to deliver software changes; ability to document work clearly and collaborate on releases and technical troubleshooting.

- Strong analytical skills and initiative: able to recognise problems without waiting for detailed instructions, investigate alternatives, propose improvements and follow through to completion.

- Curiosity about AI in education and the ability to learn unfamiliar tools independently. Able to assess where AI adds value and recognise limitations, including inaccurate outputs and inappropriate exposure of learner data.

- Ability to understand teaching and learning workflows and explain technical choices to non-technical colleagues. A service-oriented approach and the judgement to balance user needs, maintainability and delivery priorities.

- Effective written and spoken communication in English and Chinese, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with academic, professional services and technical colleagues.

- Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and innovative with a keen, meticulous eye for detail.
