Who We Are:

Africa Specialty Risks (ASR) is enabling sustainable economic development by fulfilling unmet insurance needs. Our platform provides local underwriting expertise, an unparalleled distribution network and access to global capacity.

Founded in the heart of Africa and with offices across the continent and the Middle East, we provide regional market knowledge, data insights, and technical proficiency for capital partners who are looking to increase their presence in growth markets.

We also participate on each and every risk we underwrite with balance sheets in Bermuda, Mauritius and through Syndicate 2454 at Lloyd’s. ASR is committed to accelerating business growth by providing customised service and innovative insurance products to enable development.

Role Purpose:

To maintain, improve and report ASR's exposure aggregation and accumulation view across specialty portfolios, ensuring that exposure data is accurate, complete, well-controlled and decision-useful.

The role will own key dashboard, data quality, data augmentation, monitoring and reporting activities, while supporting RDS development and event response analysis for the Exposure Management Lead, underwriters, senior management and external stakeholders.

Role Responsibilities:

- Aggregation and accumulation monitoring: monitor exposure concentrations by country, region, peril, line of business, policy, insured, location and other relevant dimensions against agreed appetite and escalation thresholds.
- Dashboard maintenance: maintain and enhance Exposure Management dashboards, ensuring MI is accurate, timely, user-friendly and aligned with reporting requirements.
- Data quality controls: perform regular data quality checks across exposure, policy and location data, including TIV, limits, line size, country coding, geocoding, inception/expiry, policy status,

occupancy and construction fields.
- Data augmentation: support enrichment of exposure datasets through country standardisation, geocoding outputs, administrative region mapping, CRESTA/region allocation, peril flags and other exposure-risk attributes.
- Reporting production: prepare monthly and ad hoc exposure reports, including country aggregations, top exposures, line-of-business views, appetite monitoring, RDS outputs and modelled-loss summaries where relevant.
- RDS controls and reporting: support RDS scenario data capture, exposure roll-ups, control checks, reporting packs and documentation for realistic disaster scenario monitoring.
- Event response: support live and post-event analysis by identifying exposed policies/locations, estimating potential exposure or loss impact, producing event response reports.
- Process improvement: identify opportunities to streamline SQL views, Power BI datasets, Excel controls and recurring reporting processes to improve reliability and reduce manual intervention.
- Stakeholder engagement: work closely with underwriting, pricing, operations, claims, actuarial, finance and IT/data teams to resolve data issues and improve the quality of exposure capture.
- Governance support: maintain evidence of controls, reconciliations, data quality actions, reporting sign-offs and escalation decisions to support internal governance and external reviews.

Skills & Experience:

Essential:

- Recent graduate or early-career analyst with a degree, or equivalent, in data science, statistics, mathematics, actuarial science, economics, finance, computer science, geography, GIS, business analytics or another analytical discipline.
- Strong Excel and data-handling skills, with the ability to organise, clean, reconcile and analyse large datasets accurately.
- Exposure to SQL, Power BI, Python, R, Power Query, DAX or similar data/reporting tools, gained through university, projects, internships or work experience.
- Good numeracy and analytical judgement, with the ability to spot data anomalies, investigate differences and explain findings clearly.
- Structured approach to working with policy, location, exposure and reporting data, including field definitions, data checks and control evidence.
- Interest in insurance/reinsurance, portfolio monitoring, accumulation control, natural hazards or emerging-market risk.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create concise dashboard commentary and reporting notes.
- Organised, reliable and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage repeatable monthly tasks, deadlines and follow-up actions.

Desirable:

- Internship, placement, dissertation or project experience in data analytics, business intelligence, risk, insurance, finance, GIS or reporting.
- Familiarity with Power BI, Tableau or another dashboarding/data visualisation tool.
- Basic understanding of databases, joins, data cleaning, geocoding, coordinates or administrative region mapping.
- Exposure to coding or automation in Python, R, SQL, VBA or similar would be helpful, but is not required.
- Interest in event response, natural catastrophe/news monitoring and turning data into short management updates.
