Position Details
- Reporting Manager: Director, Digital Learning Systems
- Status: Salary, Exempt
- Type: Regular, Full-Time (12 Months)
- Program: Stellar Virtual OMG - Corp
Overview The Systems Integrations & Automations Engineer serves as the primary technical owner for connectivity across Stellar Virtual's core business and learning platforms, ensuring these systems operate as a reliable source of truth for student data. This is a hands-on engineering role covering integration architecture, automation, and lightweight tooling. The role requires deep technical fluency in API architecture, data mapping, and automated pipeline design, translating cross-platform data flows into stable, scalable technical solutions across Salesforce, Student Information Systems, the Learning Management System, the data warehouse, and other enterprise platforms, to fulfill our mission of empowering families and unleashing potential.
Essential Duties
- Integration Architecture and Platform Connectivity
- Design, build, and maintain secure, scalable integrations connecting Salesforce, the Genius Student Information
- System, the Learning Management System, the data warehouse, and other enterprise platforms.
- Own API connectivity, authentication protocols (OAuth, API keys, JWT), named credentials, and endpoint configuration to support reliable cross-platform communication.
- Build and maintain custom APIs where vendor tooling falls short, and build integrations against third-party and vendor REST APIs, handling pagination, rate limits, and inconsistent or incomplete vendor documentation
- Data Integration and System Reliability
- Develop and maintain field-level data mapping, synchronization processes, and data exchange standards that keep student, household, and enrollment records consistent and accurate across systems.
- Design integrations that fail loudly and recover gracefully: retries with backoff, idempotency, dead-letter handling, and alerting.
- Proactively monitor integration and sync job health, troubleshoot discrepancies, and resolve issues through root cause analysis before they impact users.
- Automation and Tooling
- Develop automations for recurring data processing, including warehouse data extraction and generation of formatted files for import into downstream systems.
- Design, build, and maintain lightweight internal tools and applications that solve real operational problems, including browser extensions, utility scripts, and Apps Script-based tools, choosing whatever stack best fits the job
- Governance, Testing and Documentation
- Establish and maintain integration standards, documentation, and governance practices that promote data integrity, security, and compliance with student data privacy requirements.
- Design test cases and coordinate validation cycles for new or modified integrations to ensure changes do not disrupt existing business processes or data flows.
- Author integration architecture diagrams, data flow documentation,
and troubleshooting runbooks that support long-term sustainability and knowledge sharing.
- Play a key role in collective success by proactively pivoting to support emerging business needs and strategic priorities directed by your manager
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
- 3-5 years of experience in systems integration engineering, integration engineering, API development, data integrations engineering, or a related highly technical role, with demonstrated depth beyond scripting or configuration; remote experience preferred.
- Strong, production-level proficiency in Python and SQL, or comparable programming languages, with working knowledge of Git and standard version-control workflows.
- Deep functional and technical proficiency in REST APIs, authentication protocols, and data mapping across disparate systems, with a proven track record of building and maintaining production integrations end-to-end.
- Demonstrated ability to design for failure (retries, idempotency, monitoring, alerting) and to troubleshoot production data sync issues, tracing discrepancies back to root cause across multiple systems.
- A creative, resourceful approach to tool selection and problem-solving, comfortable choosing the right language, platform, or approach for the job rather than defaulting to one stack.
- 2+ years of experience working within K-12, virtual education, higher education, or education technology environments, with a strong understanding of student lifecycle processes (enrollment, attendance, support ticketing, records).
- Familiarity with Student Information Systems (SIS), Learning Management Systems (LMS), CRM platforms, or comparable enterprise applications.
- Knowledge of data governance principles, security best practices, and FERPA or other student data privacy requirements.
- Proven experience working independently with minimal supervision, including the ability to manage a digital task list and maintain a stable remote (home-office) infrastructure.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience using the Google Workspace suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive) in a professional or academic setting.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical concepts via written channels (email, Google Chat, and document comments) with high clarity and low ambiguity.
- Access to a private, secure, high-speed internet connection with a minimum of 25 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload speeds.
- Success Profile
- Systems Integration and Architecture: Designs and maintains secure, scalable integrations that ensure reliable communication and data flow across enterprise systems.
- Technical Problem Solving: Identifies root causes of integration and data issues, implements sustainable solutions,
designs for failure resilience, and maintains system reliability.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partners with technical teams, vendors, and business stakeholders to deliver integration and automation solutions that support organizational goals.
Education & Certification Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required for all positions.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems,
- Information Technology, or a related field highly preferred.
Benefits & Incentives (Full-Time Only)
- Competitive vacation and paid time off plans
- Comprehensive medical (HMO, HDHP, and PPO), dental, and vision plans with varying coverage for employees and their families, with options available in all states, including a high-deductible health plan (HDHP) option.
- 401(k) retirement plan (pre- and post-tax options) with matching contribution up to 3% after one year of employment
- Additional supplemental disability, life, critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident, legal aid, and ID theft protection plans
- Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA)
- Two paid closure weeks each year (weeks of July 4 and December 25)
- 11 Company-paid Holidays
