Job Title: Automation System Engineer
Location: Campania | Italy

Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Automation System Engineer to support automation and manufacturing systems within a GMP environment. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with PLC/SCADA systems, Siemens automation, MES, OSI-PI, IT/OT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and GMP-compliant systems.
The successful candidate will be responsible for system troubleshooting, automation project support, qualification activities, infrastructure support, and maintaining the reliability and compliance of manufacturing automation systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide automation project support, including troubleshooting, coding, system design, testing, and IOQ/qualification support.
- Support manufacturing systems including Werum PAS-X, OSI-PI, MES, and process control systems.
- Support onsite automation and GMP systems, including Schneider clients, chart recorders, SiPAT, TCUs, GMP PCs, peripherals, OT infrastructure, and GMP printers.
- Diagnose PLC errors and perform root cause analysis using PLC diagnostic buffers and system diagnostics.
- Troubleshoot hardware, communication, and networking issues and implement corrective actions.
- Perform CPU, communication card, I/O module, firmware, and memory health checks.
- Troubleshoot communication issues between PLC/CP modules, PI/OPC servers, and other automation systems.
- Trace field device I/O signals using electrical and instrumentation drawings and inspect wiring, fuses, sensors, actuators, and other field devices.
- Support the design, configuration, implementation, and maintenance of new and existing automation system infrastructure.
- Assist with implementation and upgrades of automation systems, including virtualization solutions.
- Develop and maintain IT/OT standards, procedures, and technical documentation.
- Prepare, review, and update SDLC documentation including Requirements Specifications (RS),
Software Design Specifications (SDS), Hardware Design Specifications (HDS), protocols, and related documentation.
- Perform qualification and validation testing for new and existing systems.
- Support backup, disaster recovery planning, and recovery testing.
- Initiate and implement proactive site changes, system improvements, and small automation projects.
- Participate in the department's daily support rota and provide out-of-hours/on-call automation support when required.
- Support PLC system compliance and GMP activities.
- Coordinate technical tasks to ensure timely completion of projects and support activities.
- Prepare monthly reports covering completed tasks, system support, and project activities.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Proven experience in automation engineering within a GMP/pharmaceutical manufacturing environment is essential.
- Strong knowledge of Siemens PLCs, MES, OSI-PI, and/or general process control systems.
- Hands-on experience with PLC, SCADA, automation hardware, and industrial networking.
- Strong IT/OT infrastructure knowledge.
- IT security and cybersecurity experience, preferably within an industrial or GMP environment.
- Experience with IT backup and disaster recovery solutions.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft technologies, including Windows 7–11 and Windows Server environments (2008–2022).
- Working knowledge of Active Directory.
- Basic database administration knowledge.
- Experience with system troubleshooting, diagnostics, and root cause analysis.
- Knowledge of GMP compliance, qualification, validation,
and regulated environments.
- Ability to assess the criticality of application and system support issues and prioritize activities accordingly.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and work effectively in a support-focused environment.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: €50,000.00 - €55,000.00 per year
