On its behalf, we are looking for a

AREA SALES MANAGER – CENTRAL ITALY (Emilia Romagna, Toscana, Lazio, Umbria, Marche)

The Area Sales Manager leads and develops a team of Key Account Managers to deliver sustainable commercial results and improve outcomes for patients.

Reporting to the National Sales Director, Italy, this role translates brand and country strategy into effective field execution, strengthens account planning and customer engagement, and provides market insights to inform commercial decisions.

The successful candidate will build a high-performing, inclusive team and ensure that all activities are conducted in accordance with applicable laws, industry standards, and Alnylam policies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership and Team Development

- Lead, coach, and develop a team of Key Account Managers, fostering an inclusive, high-performing culture.
- Set clear expectations, provide ongoing feedback, and support employee growth through effective development and succession planning.




- Build field capabilities through coaching, product and disease education, and best-practice sharing.

Commercial Strategy and Execution

- Translate country and brand strategy into territory and account plans that support patient identification and the achievement of commercial objectives.
- Drive execution excellence through rigorous account planning, opportunity assessment, and resource prioritization.
- Monitor team performance against agreed objectives and key performance indicators, adjusting plans as necessary to maximize results.
- Support accurate forecasting and provide actionable market intelligence on customer needs, competitive activity, and healthcare trends.
- Drive healthcare professional education initiatives and market development activities in alignment with business objectives.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

- Partner closely with Medical, Marketing, Market Access, Business Operations, Training, and Country Leadership to ensure aligned execution.
- Support the planning and execution of congresses, educational initiatives, sponsorships, and approved commercial activities.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to establish, monitor, and communicate commercial performance metrics.

Compliance and Operational Excellence

- Ensure all commercial activities are conducted in compliance with applicable Italian laws, industry codes, company policies, and approved promotional practices.
- Promote effective adoption and use of customer relationship management systems and digital tools to support customer engagement, reporting quality, and forecast accuracy.
- Ensure timely and accurate documentation, reporting, and communication of field activities.




- Ensure pharmacovigilance information and product complaints are reported in accordance with company procedures.

Customer Engagement

- Build and maintain effective relationships with key healthcare stakeholders and decision-makers.
- Accompany team members in the field, as appropriate, to coach customer engagement and strengthen account planning.
- Participate directly in strategic customer interactions when required to support business priorities and patient access initiatives.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience.
- 5+ years of pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or specialty healthcare commercial experience.
- Previous people leadership experience with a track record of coaching and developing field teams.
- Strong knowledge of the Italian healthcare environment.
- Experience in account planning, forecasting, and performance management.
- Fluency in Italian and professional proficiency in English.
- Willingness to travel extensively within Italy.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience in rare diseases, specialty care, or hospital-based products.
- Product launch experience.
- Experience with Veeva or similar CRM platforms.

ITALY PAY RANGE

- EUR 97,800 – EUR 132,300 gross per annum
- The pay range reflects the full-time base salary range we expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. Base pay will be determined based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skills and education. This role is eligible for an annual short-term incentive award (e.g. premio or sales incentive), an annual long-term incentive award (e.g. equity) and competitive benefits.
