Digital Communications & Student Services Assistant

The Umbra Institute - Perugia, Italy Full-time | 38 hours per week | Temporary position (9-12 months) | Maternity leave replacement. The Umbra Institute, an American study abroad institution based in Perugia, Italy, is looking for a Digital Communications & Student Services Assistant to join our team on a temporary basis for a maternity leave replacement. The position will primarily focus on digital communications, social media, website content, SEO, blogging, and the use of AI tools, with a smaller portion of the role dedicated to student services and administrative support. This is an ideal opportunity for an enthusiastic, digitally minded early-career professional who is interested in developing a broad range of skills within an international academic environment.

Main Responsibilities

Digital Communications & Marketing

- Manage and develop the Institute’s social media channels, including planning, creating, and publishing engaging content.
- Create, edit, and update content for the Institute’s website and blog.
- Contribute to the Institute’s SEO strategy, including keyword research, content optimization, and monitoring website performance.
- Develop written, visual, and multimedia content promoting the Institute, its academic programs, student experiences, events, and activities.
- Explore and effectively use AI tools and generative AI for content creation, research, digital marketing, and workflow optimization.
- Assist with newsletters, promotional materials, and other digital communications.




- Monitor social media and website analytics and use data to improve content and engagement.
- Maintain a consistent visual identity and tone across the Institute’s digital platforms.
- Collaborate with colleagues across different departments to gather information and develop content.

Student Services

- Assisting students with routine questions and requests.
- Supporting student activities, events, and other student-facing initiatives.
- Providing administrative and logistical assistance to the Student Services team.
- Assisting with general office operations and other tasks related to student support as needed.

Requirements

Degree or relevant academic background in Communications, Marketing, Digital Media, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field. Strong knowledge of social media platforms and digital communication. Good understanding of SEO and web content management. Excellent written and verbal English skills (at least B2; C1 preferred), as English is the primary language of communication at the Institute. Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills. Familiarity with AI tools and generative AI applications and an interest in exploring new technologies. Good organizational and communication skills. Ability to work independently,



manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines. A flexible and proactive approach to working in a dynamic, international environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience managing professional or institutional social media accounts. Experience with WordPress or other CMS platforms. Familiarity with Google Analytics, Google Search Console, or similar digital analytics tools. Experience with Canva, Adobe Photoshop, or other graphic design software. Basic knowledge of photography, video editing, or other multimedia content creation. Previous experience in digital marketing, communications, education, or an international environment. Experience working with students or in a student-facing role.

What We Offer

A full-time temporary position (38 hours per week) for approximately 9-12 months, covering a maternity leave.
