Overview

As an R&D Test Automation Engineer at ABB, you’ll validate high-quality energy management products through automated testing on real devices and lab setups. You will build and evolve test automation that connects test benches, instruments, device interfaces, and Hardware-in-the-Loop environments. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve test reliability and coverage while growing your expertise in product validation and integrated test systems. This role offers hands-on work with real hardware in a hybrid, growth-oriented R&D team, contributing to ABB’s mission of cleaner, smarter solutions.

Responsabilità

- Develop, maintain, and improve automated test solutions to boost repeatability, efficiency, and coverage in product validation
- Integrate devices under test, measurement instruments, power/energy equipment, interfaces, and test benches into reliable HIL environments
- Implement test automation software and scripts to control devices, run test sequences, collect data, manage results, and support reporting
- Work with communication interfaces and libraries (C#/.NET DLLs) to configure products, stimulate tests, and verify behavior via Modbus, M-Bus, Ethernet, TCP/IP, serial
- Collaborate with firmware, hardware, system, and product teams across the validation process
- Analyze test results,



investigate failures, and translate findings into improved coverage, troubleshooting, documentation, traceability, and quality
- Contribute to evolving test automation practices, data quality, and integrated test systems for real devices and lab setups
- Join the R&D; Prototype and Testing team to thrive in a hands-on, collaborative environment

Requisiti fondamentali

- Hands-on experience with automated test solutions for product-level validation on real devices and laboratory setups
- Ability to integrate DUTs, measurement instruments, and interfaces into automated, repeatable test environments
- Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop or equivalent automated test setups with real hardware
- Python programming for test automation and framework development; C#/.NET for tool integration, DLL usage, or automation interfaces
- Experience with device communication interfaces and protocols (Modbus, M-Bus, Ethernet, TCP/IP, serial)
- Experience with test automation frameworks/tools (pytest, TestStand, Azure DevOps)
- Practical knowledge of laboratory instrumentation, especially power/energy measurement equipment and automated data acquisition
- Experience with version control (Git, SVN) and collaborative workflows
