sensitive, high-resolution photonic techniques to measure optical-cable deformation interferometrically using low-phase-noise lasers,
integrating these sources on chip to overcome the bulk, cost,
and scalability limits of current systems. In parallel, we will design a network architecture that exposes sensing elements to the control layer and converts their data into actionable information. This will support sustainable resource use, self-healing through early fault detection, and rapid responses to hazards affecting people and critical infrastructure. xysqume Combining expertise in optical networks, photonics, seismology, and network operation, the consortium will conduct long term tests on fibres carrying live traffic, improve data interpretation, and share results with the scientific community.
