Ohmatic

Milano

Ohmatic is building an AI-native environment for printed circuit board (PCB) design, where electronics engineers can design directly and delegate tasks to AI agents while retaining control over their work.

We’re looking for a Design Engineer to design and build the experience inside Ohmatic: how the platform is organized, how engineers navigate it, and how they interact with its tools and AI agents. You’ll combine UX and UI design with hands-on frontend development, taking ideas from early concepts through to production.

AI is central to both the product we’re building and the way we build it. You’ll have access to leading AI tools and models at whatever scale your work requires. We expect you to use them actively to explore more possibilities, shorten iteration cycles, and ship high-quality work quickly.

The design challenge is making a professional engineering tool clear and efficient while preserving the detail and control its users need. Engineers should be able to move between their schematic, component information, and AI assistance without losing track of their work.

What you’ll do

- Design the experience across the platform, including its information architecture, navigation, and interaction flows.
- Create interfaces for projects, component libraries, editing environments, and AI interactions, with clear information hierarchy and consistent visual design.
- Move quickly from ideas to working prototypes, using design tools, code, and AI to explore alternatives and test assumptions.
- Build the frontend, from reusable components and application logic to integration, testing, and refinement, in close collaboration with the engineering team.
- Use AI throughout implementation to accelerate development, debugging, and testing, while reviewing the output and taking responsibility for the software you ship.

- Establish a design system of reusable components, visual foundations, and interaction patterns.
- Define and implement interface behavior: selection, keyboard interactions, feedback, loading states, errors, and recovery, with attention to accessibility and performance.
- Participate in conversations and usability sessions with electronics engineers, turning what you learn into improvements to the product.

What we’re looking for

- Strong UI design skills, demonstrated through typography, spacing, layout, and the presentation of complex information.
- Solid UX and interaction design judgment, including the ability to organize an application and make its workflows understandable.
- Frontend engineering experience and the ability to build, debug, and maintain production interfaces.
- Confidence using AI tools in practical design and development work, with the judgment to evaluate their output, identify problems, and refine the result.
- A portfolio showing interfaces you personally designed and built, with a clear account of your contribution, key decisions, and how the implementation evolved. Where AI was part of your process, we’d like to understand how you used it.
- Confidence moving between design tools, code, and AI-assisted workflows, choosing the approach that helps you make progress.
- Initiative, clear communication, and the ability to carry work from concept through to delivery.

Experience with professional software, developer tools,

desktop applications, or canvas editors would be particularly relevant. Electronics knowledge is welcome; curiosity and a commitment to understanding the domain are essential.

Working at Ohmatic

We work in short feedback loops: build something, put it in front of the right people, learn, and improve it. You’ll have the freedom and resources to experiment with AI tools and use them extensively wherever they help you deliver better work faster.

Speed matters, and so does knowing whether something works. You’ll be expected to inspect implementations, test interactions, and make deliberate decisions about usability, accessibility, and maintainability.

You’ll work directly with the founders, with substantial ownership of the platform’s interface and frontend implementation. We’ll help you build an understanding of the product, engineering workflows, and electronics design context, so you can make informed decisions as you take on responsibility.

Joining at this stage means helping establish the interaction patterns, visual language, and frontend foundations that will shape the product as it grows.

Role details

- Location and working arrangement: Milan, Italy. In person, working closely with the founding team.
- Compensation: from €50,000 to €80,000 annual salary, depending on experience and level, plus equity.
- AI tools and model access: Access to leading AI tools and models at whatever scale your work requires.

How to apply

Apply directly through LinkedIn with your CV. Please include a link to your portfolio in your CV so we can easily review your work.

Highlight a project that demonstrates your ability to take an interface from design through implementation, making your personal contribution clear.
