No /ph3Offer Description /h3pMASLAB investigates the transformations in the exercise of episcopal power within Christian communities in the Near East (7th -10th c.) against the backdrop of the transition from Byzantine and Sasanian rule to Islamic rule. Drawing on a diverse, multilingual corpus of sources, the project analyzes how episcopal authority, relational networks, and the resources available to bishops adapted, reorganized,



and were redefined within the new political and religious structures of the Islamic Empire.
