The Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies at the European University Institute (EUI) invites outstanding candidates to apply for the position of Chair of Global Economy. The successful candidate will be expected to lead, shape, and implement an inspiring academic research agenda within the Global Governance Programme (GGP) to promote understanding of national and multilateral responses to the broad changes underway in the global economy.

In line with the RSCAS Strategic Plan (2026-2030), the candidate’s research agenda should address major debates on the governance of cross-border economic flows and on the changing architecture of the global economy, with particular attention to Europe’s role. Relevant themes include global production networks, trade, capital mobility, labour mobility, industrial policy, and the interaction between domestic, regional, and multilateral policy regimes.

As Global Economy Chair holder, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the achievement of the goals set out in the EUI Strategy for 2026-2031 by collaborating with the relevant departments and to contributing to their research and training activities (e.g., by contributing to seminars or providing secondary supervision for a limited number of doctoral researchers). They will also be responsible,



with the support of the Global Governance Programme, for the growth and development of research on the ‘Global Economy’, including through the mobilisation of external funding and the mentoring of early-stage researchers.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide major input in research, supervision and administration, including:

Research:

- To develop and lead research in the fields mentioned in the profile, specifically challenges to Global Governance;
- To promote the integration of their research with other research interests within the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies; as well as interdisciplinary research with the other Departments and Centres of the EUI;
- To maintain a high national and international profile of publications in books and in internationally recognised journals, with an interest in contributing to the intellectual and public life of the EUI;
- To acquire research funding on an individual basis and in collaboration with others.

Supervision and mentoring:

- To provide high-quality doctoral co-supervision for a limited number of PhD researchers;
- Fostering an intellectually stimulating and inclusive research environment at the EUI;
- To mentor early-stage researchers, including Max Weber and Jean Monnet Fellows,



contributing to their academic and professional development.

Administration:

- To make a significant contribution to the promotion of the EUI, and to contribute to the transition of EUI researchers into professional life, especially in academic careers;
- Serve on appropriate institutional committees, and to contribute fully to the general life of the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies and the EUI;
- To contribute to an inclusive and diverse institutional culture at the Robert Schuman Centre and the EUI.
