Electrical Engineering Manager – Solar PV & BESS

Rome, Italy (Hybrid Working)

A rapidly growing renewable energy business operating across Italy is looking to appoint an Electrical Engineering Manager to take ownership of the technical design and engineering of utility scale Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System projects.

The business is active across the full project lifecycle, from early stage development and land acquisition through permitting, engineering, EPC, construction and project delivery.

This is a senior technical position within the engineering function, combining hands on electrical engineering with technical leadership. You will be responsible for ensuring projects are technically robust, optimised and suitable for financing and construction.

Key Responsibilities

Preliminary & Conceptual Engineering

- Lead the electrical concept and preliminary design of utility scale Solar PV and BESS projects
- Define plant layouts and overall electrical design strategies
- Support design confirmation during the STMG phase
- Assess and select key technologies including PV modules, inverters, trackers and BESS systems
- Coordinate energy yield assessments and feasibility studies, including PVsyst analysis
- Carry out technical constraint analysis and identify opportunities to optimise project design
- Define grid connection solutions and the associated technical strategy

Detailed Electrical Engineering

- Lead and coordinate detailed electrical engineering activities throughout project development
- Oversee executive engineering documentation required for permitting and construction
- Support secondary permitting activities through the preparation and review of definitive designs
- Develop and review Single Line Diagrams for MV and HV systems
- Carry out electrical sizing, equipment selection and system optimisation across MV and HV infrastructure
- Coordinate electrical and civil engineering requirements
- Ensure consistency and technical integration across all engineering disciplines

Grid Connection & Integration





- Manage and support grid connection activities with relevant Italian TSOs and DSOs, including Terna and e Distribuzione
- Assess grid capacity and connection feasibility for new projects
- Ensure projects comply with applicable grid codes, technical standards and TSO/DSO requirements
- Manage technical interactions with grid operators and relevant authorities
- Support the preparation and submission of documentation through relevant regulatory and grid connection procedures

Technical Due Diligence

- Prepare and review technical documentation for investment and financing processes
- Support the preparation of technical data rooms for lenders and investors
- Work closely with independent engineers, technical advisors and other project stakeholders
- Carry out technical site visits, inspections and feasibility assessments
- Review technical due diligence reports and ensure identified requirements are addressed

Technical Leadership

- Establish and maintain internal engineering standards, processes and best practices
- Manage external engineering consultants and technical advisors
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior electrical engineers
- Review engineering outputs to ensure a consistently high standard of quality
- Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes, project design and technical efficiency
- Take ownership of key technical decisions throughout the project lifecycle

What We're Looking For

- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering or a closely related discipline
- Around 10 years of experience working on utility scale Solar PV and/or BESS projects




- Strong technical understanding of MV and HV electrical design
- Proven experience with grid connection processes and requirements in Italy
- Strong knowledge of PV plant design and Battery Energy Storage System integration
- Experience using relevant engineering and design software such as AutoCAD, PVsyst, PVcase and QGIS
- Good understanding of the Italian permitting and regulatory environment
- Fluent Italian and English
- Experience working across EPC processes and providing engineering support during construction would be advantageous
- Willingness to travel occasionally to project sites
- Registered with the Italian Register of Engineers, or eligible for registration
