ph3Job Description /h3 pThe primary function of the Senior Surveyor is to examine and report on vessels and other marine and offshore structures during and after construction relative to compliance with the applicable requirements for meeting associated statutory and special service requirements related to international regulations, classification rules, or client-specified rules/guidelines.
May also be responsible for the administration of office procedures and monitoring of business performance at an assigned port.
/p h3What You Will Do /h3 ul liActs as a professional specialist for the organization in the application of related rules, regulations, requirements, concepts, principles, and processes.
/li liRemains knowledgeable of new methods and developments affecting the technical scope of assigned responsibilities and makes recommendations for changes in the surveying processes and safety programs as warranted by such developments.
Recommends new approaches to problems encountered and makes changes in methods, procedures, or design where necessary.
/li liResponsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating various phases of surveying work and monitoring the quality of service on work performed.
/li liEngages in contact with clients to resolve problems within their area of expertise.
/li liPrepares technically accurate and timely reports of all inspections and surveys performed.
/li liMonitors all work and projects performed by subordinate surveyors to ensure maintenance of quality, content, consistency, and continuity of all work performed.
/li liProvides supervision, guidance, and training to lower-level surveyors.
Promotes the services and capabilities of ABS to present and potential customers.
/li liMaintains survey files in an orderly and up-to-date manner in the area of responsibility.
/li /ul h3What You Will Need /h3 pEducation and Experience /p ul liBachelor's degree or recognized equivalent in an appropriate technical discipline is preferred; should have previous related marine industry experience and appropriate certification and/or licenses in area of specialization.




/li liAll new hire candidates are to have as a minimum the following: /li ul lia degree or equivalent from an institution recognized within a relevant field of engineering or physical science, or /li lia qualification from a suitable marine or nautical institution and relevant seagoing experience as a certified ship officer, and /li liproficiency in the English language.
/li liTypical requires a minimum of 8 years experience in an appropriate technical discipline and/or industry.
/li /ul /ul h3Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities /h3 ul liKnowledge of the sea and its effect on ships and structures.
/li liA sound foundation of survey training and practical experience with vessels in service.
/li liMust have a strong working knowledge of ABS Classification Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, and related instructions, as well as the ABS Employee Safety Policy.
/li liAbility to read engineering plans and have a good understanding of shipbuilding practices and vessel operations.
/li liKnowledge of various formats for completion of certificates.
/li liMust be familiar with logging procedures and preparing invoices.
/li liAbility to communicate, orally and in writing, pertinent information relative to assigned area of technical expertise.
/li liAbility to analyze problems and propose solutions.
/li liResponsiveness to customers.
/li liAbility to work well with others.
/li liObtain a working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management System.
/li /ul h3Reporting Relationships /h3 pThe incumbent reports to a senior-level surveyor under the direction of the Survey Manager, District/Country Manager, or Regional Vice President, as appropriate.
May supervise other surveyors or clerical support staff as applicable.
