Job Description

Barilla G. e R. Fratelli is seeking a Plant Engineer for its production facility in Muggia (TS).

Purpose of the Role

Reporting to the Technical Area Manager (TAM), the role will ensure the reliability and efficiency of production and packaging lines by planning and managing routine and extraordinary maintenance activities, coordinating internal and external resources, and overseeing revamping interventions. The role will also involve proposing investment projects and planned improvements aimed at maximizing production line performance, ensuring spare parts availability, and complying with plant requirements and company guidelines.

Responsibilities

- Manage and implement all plant-related investments and contribute to achieving objectives for projects under the responsibility of Technical Development.
- Support the Technical Area Manager (TAM) in defining the investment plan (Capex Investment Forecast), assessing project sustainability in terms of approvals and cash-out.
- Manage and keep updated technical documentation and certifications for new equipment, as well as upgrades to existing installations.
- Maintain and update the plant asset registry and machine bills of materials in SAP, including managing the disposal phases of decommissioned assets.
- Define, in collaboration with all relevant company functions, appropriate preventive and predictive maintenance policies,



improvement projects, and regulatory compliance activities for assets, ensuring adherence to defined timelines and costs.
- Define the types and quantities of spare parts required for new equipment, working with the Maintenance Manager and Spare Parts Warehouse Manager, and actively driving standardization strategies.
- Coordinate with the Production Manager, Planning & Warehouse Manager, and Maintenance Manager to define scheduled downtime for installation or start-up of new equipment throughout all project phases.
- Propose and implement innovation and efficiency improvement projects for plant assets.
- Identify opportunities to reduce energy consumption and propose innovative technical and cost-saving solutions.
- Develop and strengthen relationships with existing and potential suppliers, evaluating services and offers to identify technological developments, revamping activities, and new implementations for the plant.

Main Activities

- Identify improvement areas for production and packaging equipment, researching optimal technical solutions (through scouting and benchmarking) in collaboration with the TAM and Maintenance Managers to maximize efficiency and reliability.
- Ensure consistency between design and industrialization phases for both new projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Propose plant improvements for existing assets and, in coordination with central engineering, for investments in new lines.
- Collect and update all plant technical documentation (layouts, technical documents, safety plans, etc.).
- Prepare technical specifications and manage orders for new equipment/plants in collaboration with the purchasing department.
- Monitor resource utilization (materials, direct and indirect labor) through detailed investment cost control (RCA).
- Collaborate with the Maintenance Manager in defining maintenance policies,



supporting area managers in their implementation through standardized tools and methods.
- Ensure continuous monitoring of equipment performance, identifying critical areas and preparing intervention plans to maximize performance (condition-based preventive maintenance).
- Monitor and analyze maintenance performance indicators, sharing them in a structured way with maintenance teams to guide action plans and follow-up.
- Coordinate and oversee the start-up and ramp-up of new installations, implementing technical training plans for production and maintenance personnel.

Requirements

- Master’s degree in Engineering or strong technical/maintenance knowledge
- Experience in managing construction/work sites (preferred)
- Excellent command of English, both spoken and written (preferred)
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Excellent planning and organizational skills, autonomy, and flexibility
- Willingness to grow and continuously learn
- Teamwork, proactivity, and strong interpersonal and cross-functional relationship skills

Compensation

- The gross annual base salary (RAL) offered will be no less than €45,000, in accordance with the applicable National Collective Bargaining Agreement (CCNL Industria Alimentare).
- The Company is committed to offering a competitive compensation package and may propose a higher final salary based on the candidate’s experience, skills, and qualifications.
- The compensation package also includes a variable component and a competitive welfare and benefits offering. Further details will be provided at a later stage and will be subject to company policies.
