Salesforce Data Migration Specialist (Freelance)
About the programme
Our client, a software vendor specialising in qualified trust services and digital transaction management, is consolidating four existing Salesforce Sales Cloud and Service Cloud orgs into a single target org. The programme will harmonise data and business processes, simplify the Salesforce landscape and establish a common platform across the business.
Role purpose
We are recruiting a hands-on Salesforce Data Migration Specialist to own the data migration workstream, from discovery and mapping through to testing, cut-over and post-go-live support.
You will analyse the four source orgs, define how their data maps to the target model, address data quality and duplication issues, and ensure that migrated data is accurate, complete and fit for business use.
Working closely with Sales and Service stakeholders, Salesforce architects, technical teams and implementation partners, you will take ownership of migration delivery and proactively drive issues to resolution. Experience with systems integration is an advantage, particularly in managing dependencies and supporting end-to-end testing.
Key responsibilities
Data migration and harmonisation (core responsibility)
- Define and execute the migration approach across the four source orgs, including sequencing, test cycles, cut-over and rollback plans.
- Analyse differences in data models, objects, fields, record types, picklists, relationships and customisations.
- Develop source-to-target mappings and transformation rules aligned with the agreed target data model.
- Profile data to identify duplicates, inconsistencies, missing information and quality issues across accounts, contacts, leads, opportunities, cases, products and related objects.
- Work with business owners to agree data cleansing, record matching, de-duplication, ownership and exception-handling rules.
- Build and execute migration processes for trial loads, dress rehearsals and production cut-over, preserving required relationships, ownership, history and attachments.
- Reconcile migrated data against source systems, investigate discrepancies and drive resolution.
- Support system integration testing (SIT), user acceptance testing (UAT), defect resolution, go-live and hypercare.
- Maintain migration documentation and report progress, risks, dependencies and outstanding decisions.
Systems integration (desirable additional capability)
- Assess existing integrations and identify interfaces that need to be migrated, reconfigured, consolidated or retired.
- Work with architects and system owners to understand interface requirements and dependencies.
- Support integration and end-to-end testing, investigating data flow and interface issues.
- Document relevant interfaces and changes required for the transition to the target org.
Essential experience and competencies
- Proven hands-on experience delivering Salesforce data migrations, ideally involving multiple orgs being consolidated into one.
- Strong understanding of Salesforce Sales Cloud and Service Cloud data models and relationships.
- Practical experience with data mapping, profiling, transformation,
cleansing, de-duplication and reconciliation.
- Strong SQL skills and experience using data migration utilities, ETL tools or equivalent frameworks.
- Experience executing migration test cycles, troubleshooting defects and supporting production cut-over.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to challenge assumptions and drive issues to resolution.
- Ability to work directly with business stakeholders to translate requirements into migration rules and resolve data inconsistencies.
- Clear communication, delivery discipline and accountability for outcomes.
Desirable experience
- Consolidating three or more Salesforce orgs into a single target org.
- Salesforce APIs, Bulk API, Data Loader or comparable migration utilities.
- Integration platforms such as Boomi, MuleSoft or Azure Integration Services, with an understanding of REST APIs and integration testing.
- Data platforms and tools such as Databricks, Informatica, Azure Data Factory or Python.
- Integrations with ERP, finance, CPQ or other enterprise platforms.
- Relevant Salesforce certifications and an understanding of GDPR and data protection.
What success looks like
- Agreed and validated source-to-target mappings and data harmonisation rules.
- Accurate, complete and reconciled migration of the agreed data scope.
- Migration risks and defects identified early and resolved with clear ownership.
- Relevant integration dependencies tested and addressed.
- A controlled go-live with minimal disruption to Sales and Service operations.
Engagement terms
- Contract: freelance assignment, initial term of 6 months, followed by a further 6 months.
- Location: fully remote.
