Semiconductor Equipment and Process Development
San Martino di Lupari (PD), Italy | Full-time | Fully on-site | Partner travel The opportunityWe are supporting a deep-tech business developing electrochemical deposition equipment and processes for advanced semiconductor packaging. We are looking for an experienced technical project manager who has personally taken new equipment or manufacturing processes through experimental development, validation and qualification. Please apply if you can sustain a daily commute to San Martino di Lupari or relocate before starting.
You will lead R&D; programmes at the laboratory, cleanroom and workshop in San Martino di Lupari, owning the process development plan across microfabrication, electrochemistry, metrology and semiconductor equipment. You will turn experimental dependencies, laboratory and pilot-line capacity, and technical risks into credible commitments to international partners.
This is a senior role with direct responsibility for day-to-day programme execution. In year one you will have no direct reports: you will build and update the schedules yourself, control programme costs and work through problems directly with engineers. From year two, the role is expected to build the project management function as the portfolio requires.
What you will own· Integrated development plans for internal programmes and joint development with external partners: scope, deliverables, technical dependencies, critical path and agreed milestones.
· Weekly planning of experiments, sample preparation, metrology, shared equipment and engineering capacity; controlled changes to the baseline as evidence and priorities evolve.
· Programme budgets covering materials, tooling, external services and laboratory time, including spend tracking, forecasts to completion and early corrective action.
· Technical risk reviews with engineers: challenge assumptions, agree mitigation and recovery options, and escalate decisions before a commitment becomes unachievable.
· Partner reporting, scope changes and delivery negotiations, together with monthly programme reviews with the CEO and leadership team.
· Completion against agreed qualification criteria and supporting data, with sufficient traceability for partners to follow the results and decisions.
Why joinYou will help bring a semiconductor manufacturing technology from development towards industrial deployment, with direct access to technical decisions and a meaningful role in shaping how the company delivers its programmes.
Experience and applicationThe experience we need· A degree in Engineering, Physics or Chemistry and at least 10 years running technical development programmes, with personal accountability for schedules, budgets, technical risks and outcomes.
· Practical experience in R&D; programme management, experimental validation and process qualification for physical equipment or manufacturing processes.
You can explain how test results, repeat runs, sample availability and shared laboratory or pilot-line equipment affected your plan.
· Responsibility for development commitments to external customers or partners, including acceptance criteria, scope changes and difficult discussions about dates.
· Current capability to build and maintain schedules in MS Project or equivalent, using dependencies, critical-path analysis, resource levelling and baselines.
· Technical judgement to interpret a Design of Experiments (DoE), discuss results with specialists and test the assumptions behind an engineering estimate. The role does not require you to replace the process scientists.
· PMP, PRINCE2 Practitioner, IPMA Level B/C or an equivalent professional project management credential.
· Experience combining Agile/Scrum development with partner stage gates; fluent spoken and written English. Italian is a plus.
Relevant technical backgroundsSemiconductor equipment, advanced packaging, microfabrication, thin films, wet processing and electrochemical deposition are the closest fit. We also welcome candidates from complex process equipment, coatings, surface treatments, batteries or comparable environments who can demonstrate ownership of experimental development and qualification.
Automotive, aerospace and other industrial experience can be relevant where it includes this work. Product launches, software delivery, equipment installation, commissioning or PMO governance alone do not establish the required development experience.
