What are you working on?
- The name of the project(s): Riorise
- At what stage of the project(s)? Soft launch
- Genres: Role-playing
- Platforms: Mobile
We’re the RioRise team, developing a mobile online open-world game set in a Latin-inspired world. Up to 35,000 players are online simultaneously, and our audience continues to grow.
Over the past year, we’ve made major changes to the game: reworked its content and significantly improved its quality. We’re proud of what we’ve achieved, but we’re not stopping here. To take the game to the next level, we’re looking for a strong Art Director who can elevate its visual quality.
We have talented artists, but our characters, vehicles, environments, interiors, UI, illustrations, and marketing assets currently lack a unified visual direction. You’ll be responsible for the game’s overall visual identity: defining the style, aligning teams around it, and setting a clear vision for how the game should look.
For which tasks (responsibilities)?
Visual Consistency
- Define and document the target visual style, creating a unified visual guide with clear examples.
- Bring characters, vehicles, environments, interiors, UI, illustrations, and marketing assets together under one consistent style.
- Audit existing content to identify what fits the vision, what needs reworking, and what should be removed.
- Review and approve team deliverables, providing clear, actionable feedback.
Open-World Map
- Work closely with game designers to shape the look and feel of the world, including districts, roads, landmarks, and environmental variety.
- Audit existing map issues, identify areas that feel inconsistent, empty, cluttered, or hard to read, prioritize improvements, and propose solutions.
- Ensure the right sense of scale, strong composition, recognizable landmarks from a distance, and a distinct atmosphere for each location.
Concept Development
- Gather references and create or generate concept art to communicate the intended mood and visual direction.
- Present concepts and proposed changes to the team and leadership.
Technical Art and Graphics
- Find the right balance between visual quality and performance on low-end mobile devices, considering detail levels, lighting, draw distance, and game size.
- Coordinate artists and engineers to expand the capabilities of our in-house game engine.
- Contribute to graphics improvements, including reflections, lighting, shadows, and other visual effects.
Team and Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Lead the Art team.
- Align the game's visual identity with Marketing, Social Media, and Community teams, ensuring that our ads, social channels, and store presence reflect the game itself.
What kind of professional are we looking for?
- At least 5 years of experience in game development,
including experience in a leadership role.
- A strong artistic eye and broad visual knowledge. You can recognize what works visually, what doesn’t, and explain why.
- A portfolio demonstrating your contribution to shaping the visual direction of games.
- The ability to work within strict technical constraints and balance visual quality with performance.
- Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across 3D, UI, 2D, and marketing.
- The ability to communicate ideas visually through references, sketches, generated images, and diagrams.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to align designers, developers, and leadership.
Why do we enjoy working here?
- Experience with mobile games, open-world games, or vehicle-focused games.
- Experience working with proprietary or non-standard game engines.
- An understanding of modern graphics techniques, including lighting, reflections, and shadows, and the ability to influence their implementation.
- Experience using AI tools to develop visual concepts.
What we offer
- Fully remote work. Work from anywhere in the world.
- Flexible schedule. We focus on results, not hours spent at your desk.
- Real impact on the product. Join a growing game with an active community and take ownership of how it looks and evolves.
- Fast decision-making. Minimal bureaucracy — ideas don’t get lost in endless approval processes; they make it into the game.
- Private health insurance after the probation period.
