R&D; Team Lead

This role is contributing to the People Protection product portfolio within ABB Smart Buildings in Vittuone (Milan), Italy. Main stakeholders are R&D;, Product Care, Quality, Operations, Purchasing, Manufacturing Engineering, laboratories, and suppliers.

The work model for the role is: Hybrid.

This is a temporary contract position.

You Will Be Mainly Accountable For

- Supporting Product Care activities for existing products, ensuring technical robustness, quality, competitiveness, and continuous improvement.
- Developing and modifying 3D CAD models and technical documentation, as well as performing engineering studies and simulations to evaluate product performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
- Designing, building, and validating prototypes in collaboration with laboratories, suppliers, and manufacturing teams, while supporting root cause analysis and cost reduction initiatives.
- Exploring and applying new technologies, materials, digital engineering methods,



and AI-based approaches to improve design efficiency, problem solving, and product development processes.

Qualifications For The Role

- Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent Engineering qualification.
- Good knowledge of 3D CAD design, with experience in CATIA V5 or Creo highly appreciated.
- Basic knowledge of engineering simulations, such as structural, thermal, or multiphysics analysis, with experience in prototype development, testing, or product validation considered an advantage.
- Interest in Digital Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and data-driven product development; knowledge of MATLAB is a plus.
- Knowledge of SAP and PLM/PDM systems, together with good command of Microsoft Office tools.
- You are interested in engineering, problem solving, and continuous improvement, with a curious, motivated mindset and willingness to learn in a collaborative international environment.
- You are comfortable communicating in Italian and English, both written and spoken.

Compensation Package

Applicable CBA: Metalmeccanico

Minimum annual salary: € 36.000

Variable Pay: Eligible for Company Productivity Premio
