Offer Description

The research focuses on the critical study of the recent architectural heritage of Trieste and Friuli Venezia Giulia through the work of the Celli-Tognon architectural practice (1970s–early 1980s), with particular attention to collective housing, multi-family residential buildings, public space and urban form. Activities include the survey of 40–50 works, archival research, digitisation, critical cataloguing, interpretative redrawing, and typological, morphological and urban analysis, supported by national and international comparative studies.

A four-month continuous training and research placement is planned at the Municipality of Trieste, within the departments responsible for urban planning, territorial development and the city's architecture, with access to technical and planning archives.

An additional research period of up to two non-consecutive months at ETSAM – Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, divided into two or three research stays, will focus on European case studies, methodological exchanges and discussion of preliminary findings.





Short scientific visits (2–3 days each) are also planned at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Ljubljana, and selected Italian universities.

Supplementary teaching activities within the Degree Programme in Architecture will include seminars, workshops, lectures and presentations on architectural and urban design, collective housing, recent architectural heritage, public space and critical architectural representation.

Third Mission and research dissemination activities will include the scientific curatorship of a public exhibition organised into two sections, five conferences/public talks, participation in scientific and cultural outreach initiatives, including Trieste Next, and two Open Access publications: an exhibition catalogue-atlas and a volume of conference proceedings. Research findings will be shared with public institutions, professional associations, businesses and the wider community, supporting the conservation, adaptive transformation and enhancement of the region's architectural heritage.

Specific research activities:

- Training and research placement – Municipality of Trieste: 4 months;
- International research period – ETSAM, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid: Up to 2 non-consecutive months, divided into 2–3 research stays, to be agreed with the Scientific Supervisor according to research objectives, project development needs and international mobility opportunities;
- Short scientific missions: 2–3 days each at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Ljubljana, and universities in Milan, Rome, Naples, Salerno and Palermo.
